The E in the name initially stood for Einspritzung, a new feature in volume production vehicles at the time that the E-Class first appeared. The E was a suffix to the engine nomenclature in the 1950s. The E-Class' is known for its size and durability and is used taxis in parts of Europe.
The 'E-Class' name was first used in the USA with the face lifted W124 in 1994. The E-Class used the V8 engine that helped to increase the gasoline power output. The limited edition models of the E-Class was also produced and used in different parts. The sports model is one of the successful limited edition model. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class was Motor Trend's Import Car of the Year for 1996.
