The Nissan "200SX" was a part of the Nissan Silvia line that started with the CSP311 2-seat coupe in 1964. In 1970, the Silvia model was updated as two-plus-two coupe to compete with other models and this updated version was called '200SX' where the numerals descripe the type of engine. The 200SX came in base, SE, and sportier SE-R models. 1988 - S13 Silvia was introduces and was very popular in Japan. The European models were called 200SX however; the name, Silvia was not used on export models. This model used re-lampable fixed headlights. S13 Silvias initially used the CA18DE and CA18DET engines same as S12 and for increase in stability and power, an intercooler added to the CA18DET. 1990 - The SR20DE and SR20DET engines were used, this helped to increase the power and torque due to increased displacement and a more efficient turbocharger than was offered on the previous cars.
Silvia Series 1993 S14 was introduced. This model was lower, wider, and slightly shorter than the S13. Wheelbase and track were increased, leading to slightly improved handling. 1994 - 270R: The Nismo 270R was a limited edition vehicle developed by Nissan Motorsports International. All the 270s were painted black with 'Nismo 270R' badging above the rear wheels and a product numbered plaque in the glove compartment. The S15 Silvia was a very stylish model with upgrades to the chassis and suspension, including increased use of light alloy suspension components. Six-speed manual transmission and helical limited slip unit were used for the first time. 1995 - B14 Series, Nissan reintroduced the 200SX nameplate in North America to designate a two-door version replacing the Sentra coupe and Nissan NX.
