The Nissan Axxess / Prairie, was introduced in the Japanese market in 1981 by Nissan. The first generation of Nissan Axxess was called the Multi in Canada and the Stanza Wagon in the United States. The second generation was renamed the Nissan Axxess in North America however; it was not successful and was replaced by the Nissan Quest or the Nissan Serena. The third generation of the Nissan Axxess was introduced in Japan and was initially called the Prairie Liberty
The second generation of cars called the Nissan Axxess was sold for six years from 1990 to 1995 in Canada, and in 1990 in the United States. The Nissan Axxess came with a powerful 2.0 Litre engine and provided the option of all wheel drive. The main competition for the Nissan Axxess was from the Toyota Sprinter Caribbean and the Civic based Honda Shuttle.
